Looking for my twin

Norwood is having a contest to look for your better half. Basically find your twin of the opposite sex on petfinder and post about it. The winner gets a donation to the charity of your choice.
Well, there are lots of Danes in Rescues. The number 1 reason we get turned over to shelters/rescues - We are too Big! Yes, there are stupid people out there that get a Great Dane as a puppy and then say "I didn't realize how big it would get". Seriously.

Now I'm not saying that's the only reason we gets stuck in shelters and rescues there are many other reasons that are common in all breeds: Health problems - can't afford care, moving, death in family, not getting along with other pets, new baby in the family, poor behavior, etc.

But - I know of a particular Dane that just came into the Rescue we are volunteers for. She does look a lot like me. But, being harlequin all of us are different. For example:

She looks a lot like me wif that same black spot on my face only mine is bigger.

Meet Harley & Diva - From Paws of Austin in Texas
Harley has two different colored eyes.
Diva has a really big black patch
Meet Quinn - from Central Florida Great Dane Rescue
She's really cute but I've got more spots and my nose is almost black.
********************************************************
And Finally meet Navajo - From Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue
We are the same age and I think she's the best match for my twin. What do you think?

  1. You found a lot of great matches, and Navajo is definitely the best for your twin. But we do think you are the most handsome of all.

  2. You sure duss has a lot of gurl twins looking fur furever homes. Mom woz in a shelter once way afore me and there woz a black gurl dane and her cage tag sayed she woz there coz she gotted too big. Like rilly, duss peeple think there be teacup great danes? She woz skin and bones coz the tag sayed the peeples feeded her 1 can of foods per day. Now Tucker, you so know that is way not enuff - that would not be enuff fur little old me. This dane was 1 1/2 years old and only weighed 75 pounds. So mom woz not even there to adopt (woz dropping off an injured burd) but mom adopted her, got her up to 125 pounds, and she lived a wonnerful life fur the rest of her life.

  5. My momma loves Great Danes and says when we have a bigger house and more land, we're going to get one! Those are a lot of beautiful Danes that look like you! But I think you picked a great one that looks so similar, except you have much more manly features ;-)

  9. Well, I don't know how any Dane could ever match your handsomeness but you did come up with some good ones there. And yes, I'm gonna say that Navajo is your best match.

I sure hope they all find super wonderful homes. But really? Giving up Great Danes cuz they're too big? That's why they're called "Great" and not "Teacup." Yeesh. Humans can be very strange.

  12. Hi Tucker,

That is just so sad about the rescues - it always makes my humans' blood boil when she hears the reasons people give up Danes (and other doggies) - because it shows that people are just so selfish & lazy & stupid and don't research things properly instead of just going for "instant gratification" because they want a cute puppy NOW! Grrrr! Duh - "didn't realise it would get so big"?? what a STUPID thing to say! That's like ordering an Indian curry and then complaining and saying you didn't realise it would be spicy!!

Anyway - whew! sorry for the rant but Hsin-Yi's blood started boiling again thinking about it! :-) - I hope all those lovely Danes are your twin in the best way - by finding forever homes as good as yours!

    Slobbers,
    Honey the Great Dane
ps. great news that your paw ouchie is getting better!

  18. Thanks for your wishes, Tucker.

This was a different vet from our usual one, same practice, just different face:) He didn't use a specific name other to call it a growth. But he is pretty sure it is not a wart. Guess we will know more when the lab report comes back in about a week. We will let you know.

  20. Yes, I agree - Navajo is the closest to your twin.

Believe it or not, I met someone who said the same thing about her lab puppy. She was sitting in the waiting room of the vet with an 8 wk old lab puppy, and asked me "Oh my dog - do you think that he'll turn out as big as your dogs????". I stammered that, well, yes, he would.

Then, I secretly thought that the woman had to be an idiot to adopt a puppy that she had no idea would turn out to be a fairly big dog. Oh my... I hope that lab puppy (big by now) still has a home.
