My Big Ice Fishing Adventure

(I'm a sled dog, BOL!)

Last weekend almost all the family came to visit and we went Ice Fishing. I've never been Ice Fishing before and Momma was a little worried about my clumsy self being on the ice. Anyway, she bought me non-slip Paw Wax and put in on my front feet. I was very careful in the morning and didn't run at all. Also, I never fell down - that is a huge accomplishment for me since I am so clumsy still.

Ok, so ice fishing was brand new to me and may be new to some of you doggies out there. Let me see if I can explain.

We went to the pond, but I couldn't drink the water it was hard and cold - they call this ice. I could actually walk on it. It was slippery at first cause it was like 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) outside. I walked really slow and wore my coat.

Dad made these perfect little round holes in the "ice" and the regular pond appeared.
Then he put these sticks in the hole and told me not to touch them.
The next step of ice fishing is to go back to shore and find a nice patch of sun the lay in. I found sticks of my own.

Then you eat hot-doggies. (Kind of like Frankie but not the same...)

Then everyone yells flag and goes back out the sticks in the hole.

The next part is the scariest. Weird floppy smelly toys come out of the hole!!! I wasn't allowed to play with them but dad was. I was able to sniff them and they smelt terrible. Dad put the floppy toys back in the hole. These are eventually called fish.
So then you go back to shore and lay in the sun and eat again, then back out to the holes, repeat, repeat.

It was pretty exciting and a couple hours after we arrived it warmed right up (to like 45 degrees) and the ice was a little mushy on top. I didn't have to wear my coat and I could actually run on the ice a little.

I had a lot of fun. Have any of you doggies ever gone ice-fishing?

  1. No ice fishing here, but I liked seeing you have an adventure. Anything that includes hot dogs must be fun.

  2. Looks like you had a fun time. We're not so sure about that ice stuff, doesn't look like a whole lot of fun to us. Although anytime hotdogs are involved we're happy!!!!

    Lots of slobber.

  3. Whew!!! I am relieved to learn that you didn't eat somethingy that might be like ME!! Were they those grrreat TUBE STEAK thingys???
You had a WONDERFUL adventure. I didn't know that you could do that sort of thingy on a pond. I only know my lake and the water there is always soft and wet when I go there. I DO know about those fish thingys though. You were 100% correct about them. Stinky and SLICK. Not even good to roll on!!!
You had your paws WAXED??? Like the snowboards on the Olympics??? PAWSOME!!!
You had super duper pics of your adventure. Loved your stick fun!!! Thanks Tucker!!!

  5. We have never been ice fishing (unless you count wading in a running creek trying to catch fish), but we would have been so into the flopping fish. We get anchovies some - and they are awesome!

    P.S. - You make a great sleddog.

  6. that's the strangest pond I've ever seen! There's definitely no ice fishing here in Sandy Eggo. Mom keeps tryin to get me to eat fish, but I agree...they are stinky and slimy and I don't like em. I do like hotdogs though!

  10. That sounds like fun! We've never been ice fishing - I think we are too far south for that. We just have regular fishing. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

  11. Hello Tucker! I'm Mayzie and I just found your Most Awesome Blog! I have never been ice fishing but I *have* had my paws waxed cuz when I first came to live with my mom and dad, I would slip and slide on the hardwood floors. And it was SCARY! But I'm a pro at it now. Oh, and I think your coat is handsome on you. I have a coat, too!

  12. Nope, never been ice fishing and never wanted to prior to this post. That looked great to me. My M wants to go to, I asked. Hey, Tucker, did you know they're making fun of you over at Kissa-bull. True thin, furiend. They have you say some silly caption. Go set them straight, will ya?

  13. Oh my God, Tucker - that is the coolest thing I've ever seen! Ice-fishing!!!! I wish I could have come with you! I can't believe it is so cold where you live that the water in the pond turns hard and you can walk on it - wowee!

  14. Cool Tucker! (No pun intended). Mom said she used to go ice fishin' on Houghton Lake with her grandpa when she was a little girl. Except, they wouldn't go sit on the shore and warm up. They sat in a little hut and stared down into the hole... We think your version sounds way more fun.

  18. Hi Tucker! Thanks for visiting our blog! It's very nice to meet you.
We've never been ice fishing - but that "eating hot dogs" part sure sounded fun! I think I'd love to eat that stinky fish, too. :)
    Love,

PS: Oddly, the Kansas Ocean isn't on any maps. My brother Zim discovered it; he had wanted an ocean of our own for a long, long time and then suddenly - there it was! It's very fun having one. Zim is hoping for some mountains, too - so maybe one day we'll get one of those, too! :)
